About BEL Contracting

As part of BelPacific, Bel Contracting is a member of the Pacific Group of Companies, which includes Pacific Blasting & Demolition Ltd. and Lexspan LP, as well as the Building Excavation and Shoring Divisions of BelPacific. This partnership provides BEL with in-house expertise in rock blasting and excavation; shoring, including soil and rock anchors and shotcrete; and excavation experience in all types of soil conditions.

BEL is currently part of the Fraser Transportation Group which has been selected by the Partners British Columbia as the preferred proponent for the South Fraser Perimeter Road Project. The project includes the construction of a 35 km four-lane divided highway along the south side of the Fraser River.

BEL was part of the Golden Crossing Constructors Joint Venture Design-Build team from the initial Request for Qualification stage, through the successful selection as preferred proponent to the completion of the bridge.  BEL played a major role on this project and was responsible for all of the utility construction and earthworks on the south side of the Fraser River. BEL has completed $51 million of the total work on the bridge project.

The other significant infrastructure project that BEL was recently involved in was the reconstruction and development of the southeast end of False Creek in downtown Vancouver. In preparation of hosting the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the City of Vancouver was undertaking a major redevelopment of a former industrial waterfront area into the Athletes’ Village for the Olympics. As the General Contractor, BEL was responsible for all off the underground utilities road construction for the City. Two contracts were awarded to BEL totaling $30 million and these were completed in the fall of 2009. Completion of this work along side the concurrent construction of the housing for the athletes posed major coordination and scheduling challenges.

BEL has a long history of work on industrial sites throughout the lower mainland. Clients include Shell Canada, Pacific Coast Terminals, Chevron Canada, Petro-Canada, DP World Group (formerly P&O Ports) and Vancouver Airport Authority. With many of these clients, BEL is on their preferred contractor list for all civil works. Site specific safety and security issues with these industrial clients are often equally important to maintaining the high level of workmanship required on these technically complex projects. Typically, industrial site owners cannot afford to have their business disrupted by new construction, so BEL’s expertise in project scheduling and coordination have lead to much return business.
